REPORT: Multiple NFL Teams Are Trying To Hire Bill Belichick, And One AFC Team Appears To Have The Upper Hand
Multiple NFL teams are reportedly targeting new North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick, hoping to convince him to return to the pros right away.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Las Vegas Raiders are among the clubs that “have inquired about” Bill Belichick returning to the NFL and potentially walking back on his deal with UNC. Last month, Belichick was introduced as the new Tar Heels’ head coach after agreeing to a five-year deal.
And it gets even more interesting. Pelissero reports that new Raiders minority owner Tom Brady has spoken to his former Patriots head coach about possibly replacing Antonio Pierce as the new HC in Sin City:
“Multiple NFL teams have inquired about whether legendary coach Bill Belichick would reconsider his move to college football — including the Las Vegas Raiders, whose new minority owner Tom Brady spoke recently with his old coach about what it would take to make a reunion happen in Las Vegas, per sources…
Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls together with the Patriots, and sources say Brady believes the situation in Las Vegas requires a coach of Belichick’s expertise and stature to establish a sustainable winning program.”
As Pelissero noted, Bill Belichick’s deal with UNC is worth $50 million, but there’s a $10 million buyout if he leaves ahead of June 1. That buyout drops to just $1 million if he leaves after June 1.
