NFL fans are ripping on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance after a video emerged of him completing a humiliating interception in practice.

Trey Lance is entering his second season with the Cowboys, who acquired him via trade with the San Francisco 49ers a year ago. Lance didn’t see any action behind starter Dak Prescott or backup Cooper Rush last season.

Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan shared a video clip on X/Twitter of Lance in action during Wednesday’s practice. Unfortunately for Lance, his most notable play was this awful interception to Markquese Bell:

The interception to Bell was so sad that it almost looked like Trey Lance was throwing to him on purpose. So as you would expect, social media was full of hysterical reactions to this play:

The 49ers moved up via the Miami Dolphins for the third overall pick in 2021. They used the selection on the dual-threat QB following a superb 2020 season at North Dakota State, hoping Lance would eventually replace Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting QB.

Trey Lance opened 2022 as the 49ers’ starting QB, but he unfortunately suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2. Jimmy G suffered a season-ending foot injury 11 weeks later, forcing the 49ers to start Purdy.

While Purdy has gone on to become a star quarterback in San Francisco, Lance is merely the No. 3 signal-caller in Dallas. And it’s not a stretch to say that he may already be on borrowed time with the Cowboys.

Trey Lance Is Entering NFL Draft Bust Territory

Lance never really got a fair shot to prove himself in San Francisco, but it’s worrisome that he hasn’t even locked down the QB2 job in Dallas. Clearly, Mike McCarthy and company haven’t seen enough from the former first-round pick to promote him on the roster.

Lance is eligible to enter free agency in 2025, and this may be his last chance to show he can be a starter in this league.
