REPORT: Former Green Bay Packers Coach & Father Of NFL Star Quarterback Has Tragically Passed Away
The Green Bay Packers have announced that one of their former coaches has passed away.
The team revealed as much on Wednesday as they expressed sadness over the death of Willie Peete earlier this month.
Peete, the father of a former NFL quarterback, was 87. He was an assistant coach with the team in the 80s and 90s.
The ex-coach is the father of Rodney Peete, who was an All-American at USC and the Pac 10’s Offensive Player of the Year in 1988. He played in the NFL from 1989 to 2004.
Green Bay Packers Announce Celebration Of Former Coach’s Life
The senior Peete was an offensive backfield coach with the Packers from 1987-1992. He died on December 2.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for this Saturday in his hometown of Mesa, Arizona.
“Peete was hired as running backs and special teams coach by head coach Forrest Gregg in 1987. A year later, Peete was retained as backfield coach by Lindy Infante and served under him through 1991. At the end of that season, Peete lost his job when Infante was fired by recently hired general manager Ron Wolf,” the Packers wrote on their official website.
“Peete previously coached at the University of Arizona from 1971-82 and with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1987-91. Peete’s youngest son, Rodney, played quarterback in the NFL from 1989-99 and again from 2001-04 with six different teams.”
Our thoughts go out to Willie’s family amid what must be a very difficult period.
