BREAKING: Louis Rees-Zammit shirt sales explode as he joins Kelce and Mahomes as favourite

‘LRZ fever’ is spreading as the Welshman continues to make a big impression with the Kansas City Chiefs

He’s already make a big splash in the United States and it seems that ‘Louis Rees-Zammit fever’ is spreading with a new statistic laying his popularity bare.

The Welshman, who is currently being put through his paces in training with the Kansas City Chiefs in hope of making their active roster for the new season, only quit rugby for the NFL back in January but has been on a meteoric rise ever since.

Not only has he impressed legendary coach Andy Reid with how quickly he has taken to his new sport, he has also proved popular amongst his teammates, with his recent appearance at a charity softball game seeing him add yet another string to his bow as he hit a home run at the first time of asking.

As back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs have some of the biggest names in world sport on their roster, with Rees-Zammit’s new teammates Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes known around the globe. The former’s celebrity status has increased tenfold since last year when it was revealed he was dating pop superstar Taylor Swift, which saw him become one of the most talked about people in the world.

But even amongst these superstars, Rees-Zammit has managed to hold his own. Despite still being a rookie, it has been revealed that sales of his new number nine jersey in the UK are already the third highest of any Chiefs player, with Kelce topping the list and three-time Super Bowl MVP Mahomes in second.

The exact number of sales of the jersey – which sells for £105 on the official NFL UK website – has not been disclosed, but such a ranking puts Rees-Zammit ahead of more established players like Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco and Harrison Butker.

It comes after Kelce and his brother Jason predicted that Rees-Zammit could become the most marketable player in NFL history after it was announced he had signed a three-year deal with the Chiefs. Discussing the Welshman on their New Heights podcast, the elder Kelce brother claimed the sport could have a potential new superstar in its midst.

“I’m excited to see what this guy does,” he said. “I know it’s gonna be a learning curve, but I hope this guy takes the world by f****** storm. It will be electric. With a smile like that, this guy… if he works out, he’s gonna be the most marketable player of all time.”

Meanwhile, Travis said he thought Rees-Zammit was “debonair” and “as suave as it gets” as he added: “I really just enjoy the guy’s energy so far. He’s super excited about the opportunity that he’s been given, knowing that not everybody gets these opportunities.

“The biggest advice I gave him was just try not to let it overwhelm you as much as it can, and know that everybody believes that you have the potential to be able to play. So absorb as much as you can, learn as much as you can in the short time you have before the season.”
