New York Jets Release Notable RB In Shocking Move After Embarrassing Loss To Seattle Seahawks
The New York Jets made another notable roster move following their frustrating loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
On Monday, the New York Jets announced that they have released running back Israel Abanikanda. In a corresponding move, they have promoted fellow RB Kene Nwangwu to the active roster from the practice squad.
After a stellar career at Pittsburgh, Abanikanda was drafted in the fifth round (143rd overall) by the Jets in 2023. He appeared in six games last season, finishing with 70 rushing yards, seven receptions and 43 yards.
Sunday’s loss also ensures that the Jets will finish with a losing season for the ninth straight year. They’re poised to miss out on the postseason for the 14th straight year, the longest active drought in football.
New York Jets’ Nightmare Season Can’t End Soon Enough
The Jets were expected to contend for a Super Bowl with a healthy Aaron Rodgers returning to the offense, but it wasn’t to be. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the Jets, who have already fired head coach Robert Douglas and GM Joe Douglas.
