VIDEO: Cam Newton Says Fans Still Go After Him On Social Media: “Knowing What I know, I Would Have Torn Every Ligament In My Leg”
It’s been almost nine years, and Cam Newton still cannot escape what happened at Super Bowl 50.
The former Carolina Panthers quarterback has talked about that infamous fumble ever since he failed to jump on it during the game.
A few weeks ago, Newton had a lot to say about the Colts benching Anthony Richardson for Joe Flacco after he revealed he asked out of the game because he was winded.
The situation is personal for Newton as Richardson created a moment that will likely live with him for years to come.
In Super Bowl 50, Cam Newton infamously chose not to dive on a fumble.
That choice has led to non-stop trolling from fans almost nine years later.
“I can’t post an Instagram post, a TikTok, or even a Twitter post without somebody mentioning that. Anthony Richardson, you have now given so many people ammunition to shoot back at you. Don’t do that Not like that,” Newton said. “If I had known what I know now, I would have torn every ligament in my leg trying to jump on that doggone fumble, knowing what I know now. You don’t just get to come into a league and just take these things for granted. And it comes back to the word immaturity.”
Anthony Richardson certainly listened to Cam Newton.
In the two games since his return to the starting position, he has 444 yards and one touchdown. He also has 20 carries for 93 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Cam Newton On Retiring From the NFL
Cam Newton might not announce his official retirement, but he isn’t expecting to suit up for an NFL team anytime soon, either.
Speaking on his podcast “4th&1 With Cam Newton,” Newton addressed when he plans to retire from the NFL.
“Newsflash, I’m never going to retire,” Newton said.
“I know I’ve played my last piece of football. It don’t matter to me to officially retire.”
