REPORT: New Orleans Saints Coaches Forced To Sleep At Stadium, Team Alters Schedule Due To Incoming Hurricane
The New Orleans Saints had to make preparations ahead of Hurricane Francine’s expected impact.
The Saints sent their players home Wednesday afternoon ahead of Hurricane Francine’s landfall.
They made sure to heed the call of city officials to be off the roads because of the conditions.
On the other hand, the New Orleans Saints head coaches spent Wednesday night at the team facility out of an abundance of caution.
“We’ll probably find a corner of the room to lay down in at some point in time and get a little sleep,” Saints coach Dennis Allen said, via the Associated Press. “The most significant weather is going to be this evening into the early morning hours, and so that’s kind of when we’d be trying to wrap up. I don’t see anybody trying to get out of here in that type of weather.”
In addition, the team moved up practice by an hour on their indoor field, which allowed players to get in some work and have time to get home.
“We do have a job to do. Even when circumstances aren’t perfect, we still have to focus,” Saints quarterback Derek Carr said. “I’ll be home studying tonight, you know, but I’ll be doing it with all my kids sitting right next to me.
“I owe it to my teammates to be locked in and be ready to go for tomorrow. We’re human, but we also recognize we have a job to do. And we also recognize that, you know, our city has been through a lot. And so our prayers are with our whole state of Louisiana, you know, wherever this is passing through.”
The New Orleans Saints have been down this road before, but in a much bigger way.
Hurricane Katrina had a significant impact on the New Orleans Saints in a number of ways. They had to deal with tremendous damage to the Superdome, which was being used as a shelter for people who couldn’t evacuate the city.
The team was also unable to play any home games during the 2005 season and was forced to play their remaining games on the road.
The New Orleans Saints played at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, the Alamodome in San Antonio, and Giants Stadium.
New Orleans Saints Starting Season Off In The Best Way
The New Orleans Saints shellacked the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 and looked much better during the start of this season as opposed to last.
Coming into the season, the biggest concern on the Saints’ roster was their offensive line.
Derek Carr threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns in the New Orleans Saints’ dominant 47-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers, and he was only sacked once.
That would be huge going forward if they could keep it up.
Things will not be easy next week as the Dallas Cowboys host the New Orleans in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL Season.
