On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys had little trouble securing their first victory of the year as they easily defeated the Cleveland Browns on the road, but it came at a cost for star tight end Jake Ferguson.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was injured in Sunday’s 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News added that Ferguson felt he could have played through the injury and hoped it was just hyperextended.

The 25-year-old left in the third quarter after he was tackled. He was listed as questionable but never came back in.

The following day, it was reported Jake Ferguson was diagnosed with an MCL sprain after undergoing further medical tests, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

This is huge news, as Ferguson has at least avoided a more severe knee injury. However, an MCL sprain will still likely result in the starting tight end missing time.

For example, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is expected to miss three to six weeks after sustaining an MCL sprain in Week 1.

Ferguson was targeted five times on Sunday, recording three catches for 15 yards, per his stats on ESPN.

Dallas Cowboys Tight End Jake Ferguson Is A Huge Part of The Team

The Cowboys went into Cleveland and came away with a resounding win over the Browns, but they lost tight end Jake Ferguson to an injury.

Ferguson left Sunday’s Week 1 game with an injury in the second half after he took a hit to his knee in the third quarter and walked back to the locker room with assistance.

Ferguson has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain and will miss several weeks.

His production is key to what the team is able to do.

In 17 games last season, Ferguson had 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns.
