Roger Goodell Names Two Interesting New Continents Where The NFL Could Be Playing Games Next
On Friday, the NFL played its first game in South America when the Philadelphia Eagles drafted the Green Bay Packers 34-29. Now, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has revealed two other continents that he wants to host the game.
“We expect to be in Asia soon,” Goodell said on “Good Morning Football. “We expect to be in Australia soon. We’re going to make sure that our game is available around the globe. And I think the ownership has been great on that. They’ve passed a resolution where every team is obligated to play. We’re going to have eight games a year, minimum. And if we do get to an 18 and two (preseason) game season, we likely will see even more international games. And I hope someday we’ll be playing 16.”
Those two continents are Australia and Asia. For Australia, it would be the first NFL game since 1999, when the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers faced off in the American Bowl, with 73,811 fans in attendance.
Japan has hosted 14 different NFL preseason games. Thirteen have been held in Tokyo, and one has been held in Osaka. The most recent one was in 2005 when the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts played in the Tokyo Dome.
Roger Goodell Was In Attendance At Eagles-Packers Brazil Game
A few Eagles players weren’t afraid to tell the NFL they didn’t want to travel to Brazil for Week 1. Not only was it a long flight, but player safety was also under question.
However, Roger Goodell showed that he wouldn’t be asking these players to do something he wouldn’t either, as he traveled to South America to be in attendance.
