Angel Reese has finally broken her silence on her very notable absence during LSU’s 2023/24 campaign.

Things got off to a rough start for Reese and the Tigers after they began their national title defense. Having entered the season as the NCAA’s top-ranked women’s basketball following their exploits from the prior season, the program fell to Colorado in an upset loss to tip the term off.

They managed to shrug it off, winning 16 games in a row, but Reese disappeared after being benched for the entire second half of their fixture vs. Kent State. She spent four games away from the team before returning.

Reese refused to be drawn into speaking about the absence during media appearances, although it was on everyone’s mind. LSU head coach Kim Mulkey didn’t give anything away either, leaving folks to come up with their own theories, including suspension, poor grades, and pregnancy.

Reese, who is now starring in the WNBAdiscussed her unexplained absence on her new podcast, ‘Unapologetically Angel,’ this week,

“We lost to [Colorado], and it was just a whole big uproar after…I sat the second half of the Kent State game. Me and Kim Mulkey kind of got into it about something,” she recalled.

“After that game, me and her had a conversation, and we talked about moving forward, and it was just best for me to take some time off. It was me and Coach Mulkey being able to have that kind of relationship.”

While Reese did not divulge exactly what she and Mulkey argued over, her explanation is satisfactory enough. We already know she wasn’t pregnant or bombing in the classroom.

The rookie forward will hope to help the Chicago Sky to a win over the Los Angeles Sparks this Friday night, with the Sky barely holding on to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

A victory would do them the world of good.
