Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has sounded off on his mini-row with Shedeur Sanders after his Cornhuskers played the Colorado Buffaloes last season.

The two teams are scheduled for another showdown this coming weekend following Nebraska’s loss to the Buffs last September. Given the tension between the programs, Rhule has tried to downplay the feud with some glowing comments about the CU quarterback.

Rhule seemed to take a shot at Colorado head coach Deion Sanders when he suggested that some coaches couldn’t wait for the transfer portal to open.

Shedeur, Coach Prime’s son, claimed Rhule had made things “extremely personal.” Nebraska’s payers standing on the Buffs logo ahead of the game didn’t help matters, with Colorado taking exception.

“The coach said a lot of things about my Pops, about the program,” Sanders said. “But now that he wants to act nice, I don’t respect that because you hating on another man. You shouldn’t do that. All respect was gone for them and their program.”

Matt Rhule Insists He Has Moved On

Matt Rhule was questioned on Monday about possible lingering animosity and said he had nothing against Shedeur or Colorado.

“I don’t take anything [personally],” he told reporters. “Everybody’s got their own things to do. I’ve got love in my heart and a lot of respect for what they’re doing. Nothing will bother me. At the end of the day, if Shedeur felt like I disrespected his father, he’s standing up for him. Good for him. My son would stand up for me.”

Rhule added that Shedeur Sanders is “courageous and tough,” having already described him as “one of the best football players I’ve ever coached against” earlier this year. Rhule predicted that the quarterback and teammate Travis Hunter will be top-five picks in next year’s NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, the Buffaloes are off to a 1-0 start again, with Sanders leading them to a win over North Dakota State last week. The Cornhuskers are also headed into the clash with a 1-0 record following a blowout victory over UTEP.
