REPORT: Several NFL Teams Are Trying To Trade For Big-Name Houston Texans Wide Receiver
NFL teams are reportedly checking with the Houston Texans to see if young wide receiver John Metchie III is “available” in a trade.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, “multiple terms have reached out to” Houston to see if they can make a trade for John Metchie III. Houston has a logjam at WR, headlined by the three-headed monster of Tank Dell, Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs.
The 24-year-old Metchie was drafted in the second round (44th overall) by the Texans in 2022. That same year, the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League drafted Metchie before he chose to go to the NFL.
Metchie missed his entire rookie year after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He received clearance to play the following year and caught 10 receptions for 100 yards and one touchdown.

In his final college football season at Alabama, Metchie caught 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. The Crimson Tide reached the national championship game, where they fell to the Georgia Bulldogs.
John Metchie III Could Use A Fresh Start
Nico Collins and Tank Dell were one of football’s dynamic receiving duos last year with rookie sensation CJ Stroud engineering the offense. With Stefon Diggs now in the fold, that’s three potential 1,000-yard receivers before we also mention running back Joe Mixon and tight end Dalton Schultz.
So there just isn’t be much room here for John Metchie III with the Texans. Other teams saw his sky-high potential at Alabama, so they should be keen on acquiring him via trade if the Texans will listen to offers.
The Texans will kick off their 2024 season on Sept. 8 when they visit the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.
