It seems that earning huge sums through betting is becoming increasingly common these days, with combat sports stars like Conor McGregor being prime examples. McGregor bet on Nate Diaz in his boxing match against Jorge Masvidal and made $1.6 million, which was more than Diaz’s purse for the fight. Recently, another combat sports star, Ryan Garcia, made a winning bet that nearly mirrors Dricus Du Plessis’s fight earnings against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.

According to Sporty Salaries, Dricus Du Plessis is expected to earn $500,000 from UFC 305, with his earnings potentially reaching around $1.8 million if PPV sales go well. Meanwhile, boxer Ryan Garcia, also known as ‘Kingry,’ made $500,000 by betting on Du Plessis, matching ‘Stillknocks’ earnings. Garcia earned a huge payday without even stepping into the ring.

Betting has become a new source of income for combat sports stars who are not actively fighting. McGregor and Garcia, for example, are currently out of action—McGregor due to injury as he eyes a comeback and Garcia due to a ban after being detected for using performance-enhancing drugs in his fight against Devin Haney.

However, it is not just combat sports stars betting; some big industry figures, like Drake, also openly flaunt both their betting losses and wins on social media.

UFC 305: Drake’s Bet Didn’t Turn Out To Be As Lucky As Ryan Garcia

Drake’s bet didn’t turn out as well as Garcia’s. The well-known rapper wagered $450k on Adesanya to defeat Du Plessis. However, the outcome of the fight favored Du Plessis. ‘Stillknocks’ emerged victorious against ‘Izzy,’ leaving Drake with a loss.

However, many fans believe Adesanya lost because of the “Drake Curse.” For context, fans think that whoever Drake bets on someone, the latter ends up losing the fight. Meanwhile, fans also saw an upset at UFC 305 as a fan favorite, ‘Izzy,’ lost the fight. While Adesanya’s future remains uncertain, Du Plessis may face Sean Strickland next.
