2 NYPD sergeants shot in NYC, 1 suspect in custody after attempted armed robbery: sources
Two police sergeants were shot Thursday afternoon in the Lower East Side, according to law-enforcement sources.
Authorities have a suspect in custody, and have also recovered a gun, the sources said.
The wounded officers – one who was shot in the leg, the other in the groin – were taken to Bellevue Hospital.
Although their medical conditions aren’t clear, both are expected to survive, sources said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are also opaque – although sources say it began as an armed robbery at a store on Canal Street, near Eldridge Street, and the perp shot at the officers as they chased him toward Delancey Street.
The NYPD confirmed that cops responded to a 911 call for a robbery at 91 Canal Street at about 4:15 p.m., but gave no further details.
