Heartbreaking Photo Emerges Of U.S. Figure Skater Spencer Lane Inside American Airlines Flight 5342 Before Fatal Crash With Black Hawk Helicopter
Figure skater Spencer Lane was among multiple figure skaters and their coaches suspected of being on American Airlines Flight 5342 that collided with a Black Hawk helicopter on Wednesday.
Several US figure skaters and coaches, including two world champions, were on board at the time.
The report stemmed from an Instagram story circulating across other social media pages.
Spencer posted the story from the American Airlines flight that took off from Wichita, Kansas, before colliding near DC’s Reagan Airport.
Spencer Lane, a rising star in the skating community, snapped one final picture as he was sitting in his seat moments before takeoff.
The post read, “ICT [to] DCA,” which are airport codes for Wichita Eisenhower and Reagan National.
The skaters had participated in the National Development Camp at the US Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.
Spencer Lane Was Part of the National Development Team
Several coaches and parents of Team USA skaters were aboard American Airlines Flight 5342 when it crashed on Wednesday night.
Spencer Lane was one of 64 passengers believed to be dead after the aircraft shattered into pieces and plunged into the Potomac River.
The figure skater was part of the National Development Team, a training program for top juvenile figure skaters.
