Anna Kournikova Spotted in Wheelchair in First Public Sighting in 2 Years
Former tennis star Anna Kournikova was spotted in Miami recently, marking her first public sighting in two years.
The 43-year-old retired athlete, who shares three children with singer Enrique Iglesias, was seen in a wheelchair with a group of people at Bal Harbour Shops on Saturday, Jan. 25, according to pictures obtained by the New York Post.
Kournikova, wearing an orthopedic boot and a black sweatsuit, was joined by her and Iglesias’ daughters, Lucy, 7, and Mary, 4, during the outing. The couple also shares Nicholas, who is Lucy’s twin brother.
An unidentified woman was pushing Kournikova’s wheelchair through the parking lot as the group entered the shops in Miami.
Kournikova retired at age 21 due to ongoing injuries. She played professional tennis for eight years before hanging up her racket.
Iglesias, 49, and Kournikova have kept their relationship fairly private since they met on the set of his “Escape” music video in 2001.
In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Iglesias recalled meeting Kournikova and how the couple “grew up” together in the spotlight, setting a solid foundation for their relationship.
“[The video changed my life] in ways that I didn’t even think about,” Iglesias said of meeting his longtime partner. “When we met — although she came from the sports world — in a way, we kind of got each other. She knew what my world was like. I kind of knew what her world was like. So that understanding helped a lot.”
“We just started connecting little by little and got stronger and stronger and stronger,” the singer recalled. “You learn as you go. You have your good times, your bad times, and if you can get through the bad times, you’ll get to the really good times,” Iglesias continued of his relationship.
“A lot of people say, ‘Oh, well, I know this is the person I’m going to spend the rest of my life with.’ I do kind of agree with that, but at the same time, you really never know where life is going to take you and what can happen.”
After becoming a father following the birth of their twins, Iglesias gushed about parenthood onstage at his Budapest concert, saying, “I became a father 12 weeks ago and I can absolutely tell you two things: I love my babies! I love them very much.”
