“Does his girlfriend get free tuition now?” – CFB world has wild reactions to Bill Belichick’s UNC coaching move

Former Patriots coach Bill Belichick
Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has been linked to the North Carolina Tar Heels job to replace fired coach Mack Brown. On Monday, during an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show,” the legendary coach revealed that he had in fact interviewed for the job.

On Tuesday, analyst Oliver Connolly reported on X that North Carolina had agreed a deal with Belichick to be the Tar Heels coach next season.

“Update: Belichick has agreed to become the next UNC coach. Belichick handed the school a 400 page “organizational bible” with structure, payment plans, staffing choices etc. decisions on whether to commit with UNC. He is expected to know their decision within 24 hours,” Connolly tweeted.

“Belichick has a college and pro version of his updated manual and has shared it with other schools and NFL teams. But he drafted a new one specific to UNC that touched on every aspect of the program and school. Will need sign off from AD, chancellor, trustees and boosters.”

College football fans on X had mixed reactions to the news, with some referencing Bill Belichick’s girlfriend, the 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, in their jokes.

“Does his girlfriend get free tuition now?” one fan wrote.

Some fans expressed their doubts about whether the former New England Patriots coach would succeed in college football.

“Idk if I like this move,” one fan tweeted.

“I can’t see him coaching college,” another fan tweeted.

“Bill in college, never thought I’d see the day,” one fan tweeted.

Former NFL star doubts Bill Belichick will be a fit for UNC

During last Thursday’s segment of ESPN’s “First Take,” former NFL star Cam Newton expressed his doubts about whether Bill Belichick would succeed as fired coach Mack Brown’s successor in Chapel Hill with the current landscape in college football.

“I don’t think he’d fit,” Newton said. “And in large part because of this era that we’re living in with the entitlement kids. Now, the thing that I admired the most about Coach Belichick was that he was an astute student of the game. He was almost like an almanac right, and he would teach the sport of football to everybody. From trainers to kickers to punters.”

“Everybody just had to understand the point of emphasis that he was trying to make,” Newton said. “I don’t know if that works for a 17-year-old, five-star recruit that feels like he’s supposed to get even more money from NIL, and this type of attitude when even in the playoffs, you’ve seen the documentaries, you’ve seen former players talk about it, he believes in practice and I mean practicing hard.”

Bill Belichick made a name for himself by winning six Super Bowls as a head coach in the NFL. It will be interesting to see whether he could do something even remotely similar with the Tar Heels.
