Jordan Poyer’s wife took to social media after the Miami Dolphins quarterback failed to get back on his feet immediately after taking a massive hit from Damar Hamlin.

Rachel Bush took to X and posted, “Sending so many prayers to Tua and his family. A gentle reminder: there’s so much more to life than football. Always be kind with your comments.”

Jordan Poyer had been part of the Buffalo Bills for years until this past offseason when he signed with the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal.

During the third quarter of his Miami Dolphins’ 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, Tua Tagovailoa had everyone worried for him after he lunged for a rushing first down and slammed headfirst into safety Damar Hamlin.

Tagovailoa displayed the fencing position, which verywellhealth.com describes as “an involuntary physical position that occurs due to severe brain injury. This type of posture resembles an athletic fencing position—one arm is bent towards the body, and the other is outstretched.”

Tagovailoa’s right arm extended outward for a few seconds as he struggled to try and get up.

CBS Sports HQ injury expert Marty Jaramillo said Tua Tagovailoa’s display of the fencing position showed a “textbook sign of a severe head injury.”

He added that if the injury is as “extreme” as it seemed, he could be out for eight to 12 weeks, and retirement could be on the table.

Mike McDaniel Prioritizing Tua Tagovailoa’s Health While Confirming Nw Quarterback

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he’s only focused on Tua Tagovailoa’s health after he suffered the third confirmed concussion of his career.

“I will not do anything to make things worse or hurt any of our players,” McDaniel said Friday, per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.

He added: “There’s a lot of people who have vested interest in the Miami Dolphins, but questioning timelines – that gives forth anxiety.”

The 26-year-old previously said he considered retiring after suffering two concussions during the 2022 season.

Aside from Tua’s health, McDaniel confirmed Friday that backup Skylar Thompson will be the Dolphins’ starter until Tagovailoa returns.

“The team and organization is very confident in Skylar,” said McDaniel.
