With an injured Christian McCaffrey on the sidelines, San Francisco running back Jordan Mason helped the 49ers destroy the New York Jets on Monday Night football.

The 49ers dominated on both sides of the ball in an impressive win.

The NFL world was shocked by the news that Christian McCaffrey, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, wouldn’t be playing in the game at all.

Instead, Jordan Mason was next in line.

It’s the sort of news that sent people scrambling to place wagers and head to the waiver wire to fix their fantasy lineups.

In the wake of an incredible night for Mason, he joined ESPN’s Lisa Salters on the field for a postgame interview.

Asked when he knew he’d be starting, Mason provided a pretty revealing answer that just might get the team in huge trouble.

“Friday … maybe Friday night,” Mason said.

If Mason was told that McCaffrey wouldn’t be starting on Friday, the 49ers would be subject to fines and punishment by the league office for concealing an injury.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan denied those comments following the game.

“I never told Jordan he was going to start,” Shanahan said after the game. “I told him he had to be ready a bunch, but it might’ve been Bobby [Turner] or somebody trying to pump him up. He knew he was going to have to play a lot, it wasn’t going to be like usual.”

Mason, who went undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2022, finished the game with 147 rushing yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, per his stats on ESPN.

Jordan Mason ‘Mad’ Over Question Of When He Found Out He Was Starting

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey’s absence from “Monday Night Football” shocked everybody, but it did not seem to shock his teammates.

Backup running back Jordan Mason, who had 147 rushing yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, revealed to ESPN’s Lisa Salters after the game that he had been informed of his starting role as early as Friday.

After he was out of uniform, Mason was asked yet again when he was told that McCaffrey would be sitting against the Jets.

This time, he was upset about the line of questioning because he likely heard from others on the team that he screwed up.

“That question right there is why I’m mad, that’s why I don’t like really talking to media because if you say one thing wrong,.. and you know… we’ll skip that question,” Mason said.
