Houston Texans Acquire Superstar Pass Rusher From NFC Team In Blockbuster Trade Proposal That Would Give Them The NFL’s No. 1 Defense
A fascinating trade proposal has the Houston Texans adding a two-time Pro Bowler in a deal that would give them the league’s best defense.
The Houston Texans were the NFL’s biggest surprise a year ago, with head coach DeMeco Ryans leading the club to 10 wins and an AFC South division crown. Houston defeated the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round before losing to the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round.
Houston already has an elite defense led by young superstar pass rusher Will Anderson Jr., shutdown corner Derek Stingley Jr. and newcomer Danielle Hunter, who was signed to a two-year deal in free agency.
But you can never have too many elite defensive players in today’s pass-heavy NFL, especially in a stacked AFC featuring other elite quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Justin Herbert.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see the Houston Texans get even stronger on defense by landing superstar defensive tackle Jonathan Allen from the Washington Commanders:
“Allen would instantly upgrade a weak area for the Texans. With Will Anderson Jr. and Hunter coming off the edge, Allen would bring a little more punch to the interior than the current combination of Folorunso Fatukasi and Mario Edwards Jr.
Allen’s 5.5 sacks was more than Fatukasi and Edwards had combined last season.
From the Commanders perspective, the biggest goal right now is to put the best offense on the field with Jayden Daniels. They paid Daron Payne this offseason and drafted Jer’Zhan Newton in the second round of this draft.”
Washington once had an elite front seven, but they broke it up last year by dealing Chase Young and Montez Sweat to the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears ahead of the trade deadline, respectively.
Allen had a career-high nine sacks for Washington in the 2021 season and followed it up with a 7.5-sack campaign in 2022. Since 2018, the 29-year-old Allen has recorded at least 5.5 sacks five times.
Jonathan Allen Could Get Houston Texans Over The Top
Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens have all shown that a potent pass rush can go a long way. Houston has two game-wreckers in Anderson Jr. and Hunter, but imagine if they added another elite pass rusher like Allen.
Houston would suddenly have the best pass-rushing trio in the AFC, pushing them even closer to the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance.
