The NFL is a hardcore business, and the 100-plus NFL players who aren’t on a roster definitely know that. Former Cincinnati Bengals and current free agent punter Drue Chrisman is the most recent example.

Chrisman played for the Bengals in 2022 after being signed by the franchise in that December. After sitting out the regular season, the 27-year-old came in and enjoyed great success in the playoffs.

He punted 28 times in four games, averaging nearly 50 yards per punt. His longest punt was 65 yards, amongst the over 1300 total yards. However, that remains the only game action he has seen throughout his career.

After being released by the Bengals in August of 2023, Chrisman went all of 2023 without signing with another team before getting a call from the Washington Commanders. Not only did he get an interview, but he decided to post about the trip on social media.

Drue Chrisman Loses Job After Social Media Post

One NFL fan joked in the comment section after seeing that the Commanders decided to go a different route than signing the 27-year-old. “He might be better at social media than punting,” the X user commented.

Another fan commented on the punter’s unusually weird decision to eat the banana peel he was given during his free hotel breakfast, saying, “Did he just eat the banana with the peel still on it? No wonder they didn’t sign him.”

It wasn’t only Chrisman they were making fun of, as the Commanders messaged him to take down the video after the interview, and many fans are calling Washington the “L franchise” for the move.

After all is said and done, the Commanders still have one of the best punters in the game in Tress Way, and it’s safe to say that Drue Chrisman can use some of those views to his advantage. A win-win in both scenarios.
