Trump Threatens Democrats As Government Shutdown Enters Third Week: Live Updates
The Trump administration says it has fired over 4,100 federal workers since the shutdown began on Oct. 1.
President Donald Trump had a fresh warning for Democrats as the government shutdown entered its third week with lawmakers failing to overcome an impasse regarding Democratic efforts to protect health care for the millions of Americans insured under the Affordable Care Act.
“The Democrats are getting killed on the shutdown because we’re closing up programs that are Democrat programs that we were opposed to,” Trump said Tuesday. “We’re not closing up Republican programs because we think they work.”
The Trump administration has also fired over 4,100 federal workers since the shutdown began on Oct. 1, the Justice Department said in a court filing.
Earlier this week, Trump traveled to the Middle East to promote his role in a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the two-year Gaza war.
While the U.S. president told reporters the “war is over,” lasting peace will depend on a series of challenging decisions for Trump, while early cracks are already starting to emerge.
Meanwhile, news organizations, including HuffPost, rejected the Pentagon’s much-criticized new press policy, which requires information to “be approved for public release by an appropriate authorizing official before it is released, even if it is unclassified.”

Trump To Hold Press Conference With Under-Pressure Kash Patel
Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel are scheduled to hold a news conference at the White House this afternoon.
The White House did not specify what the briefing is about, but it comes as Patel faces pressure following a series of flubs, notably over his handling of the Charlie Kirk killing.
A New York Times story Tuesday claimed that Attorney General Pam Bondi and her deputy, Todd Blanche, have a “mutual disdain” for Patel and see him as a “lightweight more interested in social media than doing his job.”
On X, Patel dismissed the report by the “NYTrash.”
