Heartbreaking Tragedy: Beloved Football Coach, 54, Killed in Horrific Crash Right After Team’s Game

Mark Alan Freer’s sudden demise has left a gaping hole in the hearts of many who truly loved him.
The assistant football coach at Malvern High School was tragically killed on Saturday night, August 30, in a single-vehicle wreck on Country Club Road in Malvern.
The 2025 high school football season has just started, and now things have come to a crushing halt for the kids he coached and the family that was left behind.
Freer, who had just retired from Malvern High School, was a coach and teacher.
Mark Alan Freer’s death comes weeks after another coach, Demetrice Beverly, was killed when he was shot by another man, De’Corlion Robinson, in an apartment at the Lakeshore Ridge complex in Alabama.
The Malvern School District made a Facebook post about Freer, saying that both staff and students loved him.
“It is with heavy hearts that the Malvern School District announces the passing of our colleague, friend, and football coach, Mark Freer,” the district said.
“Coach Freer was well loved by both staff and students. He was a true friend to everyone around him, and he dedicated himself to teaching lessons of character, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance to the students around him. His impact reached far beyond the confines of coaching and into the lives of countless students and families.”

The Malvern School District announced over the weekend that Mark Alan Freer was killed in a car crash. Malvern played its first game of the season Friday night in Jacksonville.
The Arkansas Department of Public Safety added that Freer hit a guardrail while traveling on the highway Saturday night, and his car overturned into a creek.
Freer’s death has put the entire Malvern community in mourning.
As for the high school he worked for, Malvern plans to honor his memory by wearing helmet stickers that depict a chainsaw and the letters “M, F,” per KATV.
The publication added that Mark Alan Freer will be honored during the pregame of Malvern’s next home game versus Glen Rose.
