VIDEO: Cameras Caught Scary Moment After Mets All-Star Slugger Pete Alonso Took A Baseball To The Face Suffering Gruesome Injury

New York Mets All-Star slugger Pete Alonso was briefly injured after taking a ball to the face during workouts on Thursday.
Per SNY, Pete Alonso was down for several moments when a ball hit him in the face during the Mets’ morning workouts. Cameras showed Alonso being looked at, but he thankfully avoided a serious injury and was back on the field for subsequent drills, SNY reported.
The Mets are gearing up for their first spring training game against the Houston Astros on Saturday (1:10 p.m. EST). The exhibition games will run through March 24, with the Mets concluding spring training against the New York Yankees.
After testing free agency, Alonso returned to the Mets on a surprisingly cheap two-year deal worth $54 million. The Toronto Blue Jays were reportedly in on the Alonso sweepstakes, but the four-time All-Star decided to remain with the only MLB team he’s ever known.
Expectations are high for Pete Alonso’s Mets after a surprise trip to the NLCS last season. Steve Cohen and company were the lucky winners of the Juan Soto sweepstakes, signing the 26-year-old phenom to a record-setting 15-year deal worth $765 million.
New York pushed the eventual World Series champion and superteam Los Angeles Dodgers to six games last season. We’ll see if Soto can be the final piece to help the Mets win their first world championship since 1986.
Pete Alonso Has A Lot To Prove In 2025

In 2023, Alonso reportedly rejected a lucrative seven-year contract extension worth $158 million. Maybe he misread his market, but it’s not too late for Alonso to reset his value and secure a deal worth $150 million-plus.
Alonso’s two-year extension has a player option for 2026, so he can opt out if he so desires. And seeing how much All-Star sluggers are getting paid these days, it’s not a stretch to think Alonso could land $200 million-plus if he rebounds from an inconsistent 2024 campaign.
