VIDEO: Cam Newton Was Asked If He Would Trade His MVP Award For A Super Bowl, And His Answer Is Going To Upset A Lot Of Fans
Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton gave a brutally honest answer after being asked whether he would prefer winning a Super Bowl over being the league MVP if he could do it all over again.
Newton was named NFL MVP in 2015 and led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl that season. However, they lost when they got there, with the QB making 18 of 41 attempts for 265 passing yards and an interception.
Asked on ‘First Take’ this Thursday if he would trade his MVP for a Super Bowl win, he immediately said no.
The former Panthers star said he would prefer keeping his legacy as a player who impacted the NFL to being a quarterback who played on a great team but didn’t have a standout career.
He then named some players who are Super Bowl champions but weren’t necessarily the best players on their teams, let alone the league.
“What’s more important, impact or championships?” he asked. “Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Respectfully, Nick Foles won a Super Bowl.”
Cam Newton Says He Did His Job
Cam insisted he would take the individual success because he did what he was supposed to do while acknowledging that he would probably not get many people to agree with him.
“I know that’s not the popular pick,” he added. “My take is I’m taking individual success because I did my job.”
Newton’s statement prompted mixed reactions, with some fans appreciating his honesty. Among those who respected his honesty were some who felt like he was selfish, while others thought he was simply wrong and wasn’t a team player.
