Khalil Mack isn’t done yet. The nine-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of the Year has reportedly decided to keep playing in 2025. This is great news for teams looking for a veteran pass rusher because, for the first time in his 11-year career, Mack will be an unrestricted free agent.

Mack’s resume speaks for itself, as he has 107.5 career sacks, 462 solo tackles, 13 fumble recoveries, and three interceptions while playing for the Raiders, Bears, and Chargers. Although his production dipped last season with six sacks (down from 17 in 2023), he’s still a game-changer. At 33 (he’ll turn 34 in February), Mack has proven he’s still durable, as he’s only missed one game in the past three years, and he continues to shine against the run, earning the highest PFF run defense grade among edge rushers in 2024. With free agency approaching, here are three spots that make a lot of sense for Mack.

3. Green Bay Packers

The Packers have been interested in Mack for years. Back in 2018, when Mack was on the trade block, Green Bay’s GM Brian Gutekunst made a push to get him, only to lose out to the Bears. Fast forward to 2025, and the Packers still need help at edge rusher. Rashan Gary has been great for them, but losing Preston Smith midseason in 2024 left a hole they haven’t filled. Mack would be the perfect guy to step in. He brings experience and consistent production and could even help mentor Lukas Van Ness, their first-round pick from 2024, who’s still trying to find his groove.

On top of that, Mack’s ability to stop the run would be a huge bonus for Green Bay. He had a 91.6 run defense grade in 2024, the best among edge rushers. The Packers have always leaned on a strong defense, and adding Mack could help them get back to playoff contention.

2. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles could use some help on the edge, and Mack might just be the perfect fit. Their big free-agent signing from last year, Bryce Huff, didn’t pan out, and while Nolan Smith has potential, they’re still missing that veteran presence to take their pass rush to the next level.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Mack already has a history with Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The two worked together during Mack’s All-Pro season with the Bears in 2018, so there’s a built-in familiarity that could make Philly an appealing spot for Mack. Plus, the Eagles are contenders. If Mack wants a shot at another deep playoff run, Philly could be an easy choice. The Eagles’ defensive scheme also plays to Mack’s strengths. Adding him would give Philly an experienced leader who can make an immediate impact while helping their younger players develop.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers did not have a good time defensively in 2024, and a big reason was their lack of a consistent pass rush. Todd Bowles’ defense just wasn’t the same without a guy who could get after the quarterback regularly. Enter Khalil Mack. This one feels like it could make sense for both sides. Mack was born in Fort Pierce, Florida, just a couple hours from Tampa. A return to his home state might be appealing, especially with the Bucs looking like they’re still in the NFC South mix.

Tampa Bay could use Mack’s leadership and ability to make big plays. Even with his sack totals dipping last year, Khalil Mack still showed he can deliver. He finished 2024 with six sacks, six tackles for loss, 15 QB hits, and two forced fumbles. He’s still a force, and the Bucs could really use someone like him to stabilize their defense and help develop their younger edge rushers.
