If you know a Tampa Bay Lightning fan named “Josh” who attended last night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes at Amalie Arena, you may want to check in on him.

Jon Cooper’s Tampa Bay Lightning snapped a four-game losing skid with a thrilling 3-2 home victory over the Hurricanes. Brayden Point potted the game-winning goal for the Bolts with just 52 seconds remaining, moving Tampa to within one point of the Boston Bruins for third in the Atlantic Division.

But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for one Lightning fan in attendance. Apparently, a Bolts supporter named “Josh” brought his friend “Rachel” to the game in hopes of winning her over.

During an intermission, the video board at Amalie Arena displayed a series of personal messages from Lightning fans. And that’s where Rachel shattered Josh’s hopes with a cold-hearted message of rejection:

“Josh, I think we are better off as friends. Thx for the Bolts Tix Tho. -Rachel”

At least Rachel was honest and upfront with Josh. And at least the Tampa Bay Lightning won to make the gameday experience more exciting for both, but you still can’t help but feel for Josh.

Almost everybody gets rejected by a crush at least once in their lives. But having it done publicly in the fashion of a personal message on the video board at a sporting event? Rachel really took this to another level.

Tampa Bay Lightning Get Much-Needed Victory Over Old Foes

The Lightning came away pointless on their three-game California road trip after dropping a 5-2 decision at home to the Montreal Canadiens on Dec. 29. But finally, Victor Hedman’s group returned to their steady form and squeaked out a gutsy win over a dangerous Carolina team.

Tampa Bay (44 points) also has three games in hand on the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers (50 points). If they take advantage of those additional games, the Bolts will soon be on the tails of the Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Maple Leafs.
