Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson Suffers Awful Setback With Achilles Injury That Could Jeopardize His 2025 Season
The Cleveland Browns 2024 season ended with a dud, and now the offseason is starting off even worse as general manager Andrew Berry started his end-of-the-season presser with some breaking news on quarterback Deshaun Watson.
According to Berry, the Browns found out that Watson had suffered a setback in his recovery from a torn Achilles.
Now, the team is unsure if Watson will even be available next season.
Andrew Berry also didn’t rule out the possibility of additional surgery for the signal-caller.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Deshaun Watson “alerted the medical staff during his exit physical on Sunday that something didn’t feel right.”
When asked how his setback could impact the plans at QB, Berry said, “I wouldn’t say it has a significant impact” before adding, “The reality is that the room will look different next year.”
Deshaun Watson Continues To Have The Worst Contract In The League
Deshaun Watson’s current contract with the Cleveland Browns is the worst deal in the history of the NFL.
From his perspective, the deal is spectacular, but for the franchise, it has been downright atrocious.
Even with two more seasons beyond 2024 left on the deal, Deshaun Watson’s current contract with the Cleveland Browns somehow continues to get worse.
Not only is the deal bad, but the Browns gave up tremendous assets in order to acquire the former Houston Texans quarterback.
In 2022, Cleveland mortgaged their entire future by trading first-round picks in 2022, 2023, and 2024 in exchange for Watson, along with a third-rounder in 2023 and fourth-round picks in 2022 and 2024.
Following the trade, the Browns gave Deshaun Watson a five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract.
That was the largest contract and most guaranteed money given out in NFL history.
