A woman has claimed she rejected the new mayor of NYC, Zohran Mamdani, on a dating app for one savage reason.
It was announced just last week (November 4), that Zohran Mamdani would be the new mayor of New York City, after receiving 50.4% of the vote.
Following the bombshell election result, Mamdani has become the centre of a media frenzy, after addressing President Donald Trump directly in his victory speech.
The democrat turned to the camera and said: “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up.”
Just minutes later, the President responded on his social media platform Truth Social, where he posted: “…AND SO IT BEGINS!”
During his speech, Mamdani added: “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”
The biggest city in the US has its first Muslim and first South Asian mayor.
The 34-year-old is a left-wing politician, and has been very critical of the President and other republicans throughout his career.
Mamdani was born in Uganda, and moved to New York with his parents at the age of seven.
Throughout his campaign for mayor, he made his Muslim faith a visible and intentional part of his public identity.
He regularly visited mosques, and said during a rally: “We know that to stand in public as a Muslim is also to sacrifice the safety that we can sometimes find in the shadows.”
The new mayor is married to 27-year-old Brooklyn-based Syrian artist Rama Duwaji, and openly talks about how the pair met on dating app Hinge.
Mamdani has high-flying parents, both graduates of Harvard University.
His mother, Mira Nair, is a well-respected film director, and his father, Professor Mahmood Mamdani, teaches at Columbia.
Mamdani is popular across the city, but the opposition raised some controversial takes throughout his campaign.
Some politicians, including the President, have claimed that Mamdani is not qualified enough for the role, given that he is the youngest person in a century to be elected as the city’s mayor.
Prior to his political career, Mamdani was on the city’s rapping scene, where was known as Young Cardamom.
He made a song called #1 Spice with artist HAB for the 2016 Disney film Queen of Katwe.
But he went on to work as a foreclosure prevention housing counsellor.
Despite being declared as an American citizen in 2018, Trump has alleged, without evidence, that Mamdani is in the US ‘illegally,’ and some Republicans have called for him to be deported.
A woman recently made headlines after she ‘randomly remembered’ a time she matched with the NYC mayor on Hinge, but chose not to respond to him for one savage reason.
After sharing the story on TikTok, users have now branded it the ‘fumble of the century.’
In the clip, she said: “Randomly remembered the time I matched with Zohran Mamdani on NYC Hinge a few years ago but didn’t reply to him because his height was listed as either 5’11 or 5’10, and younger me knew that meant he was most likely 5’9.
“Present me appreciates that he was more honest than most guys there.”
